Yesterday I took the subway to home as I normally do. I was reading the paper and a distinguished man in a suit sat directly in front of me. As the train continued its’ run northbound a huge black man wearing army fatigues walked briskly through the center aisle. He was like the black version of GI Joe wearing a hat, used in the TV army show The Rat Pak which I use to watch as a kid, and a bulking jacket that could hide an arsenal of weapons including your kitchen sink.
This deranged guy marched in the aisle and the distinguished man turned to me looking worried. His thoughts were exactly what I was thinking. This guy looked similar to the Washington DC nut bar who went on a rampage recently.
You can’t imagine the thoughts running through your mind unless you were there. It is difficult if not impossible to read someone’s mind or intentions.
As calm prevailed the distinguished man originally from Halifax recounted a story of when he was in Chicago. As a student he was robbed at a gun point. Frightened beyond words he handed over his urine soaked wallet. The police apprehended the suspect immediately and explained they were monitoring the situation and knew the gun wasn’t loaded. They needed to catch the suspect in the act to build a case. Meanwhile the victim used as a Ginny pig could have died of a heart attack? I understood why he was nervous after listening to his traumatic experience.
The point of this story is that we should always be aware of our surroundings especially in today’s day and age. With religious fanaticism prevalent in our society, groups or individuals use the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Constitution as justification to promote democratic principals. Too many innocent people are being sacrificed while these wackos are allowed to roam freely amongst us.
