After weeks of muted trade, markets waited for this long drawn out American election to finally end; end it did with the re-election of Barack Obama to a second term. This was over before it started as the Republican Party and supporters continuously kept putting their foot in their mouths. The straw that broke the camels back may have been the response to a question which asked, “if a woman is raped and became pregnant by her attacker could she seek an abortion?” When a dumbass leading Republican Governor responded, “it is Gods will”. The true Party colours poked their ugly heads and the result was another four years for Obama.
The markets were hammered as the Dow slid over 300 points as a slap in the face to a re-elected Obama with the potential of four more years of the same. The Republicans who offered pro-business, less government and less regulations were clearly rejected. In his first term, Barack Obama was given a task to repair an economy that was devastated by greed and corruption. He tried to bring change but was stymied ever step of the way. Trying to bring Universal Health Care to all Americans was a noble cause but the system in the USA is profit based and medicine for those that can afford it. His vision was to have a system as we have in Canada, a system universal to all regardless of race, colour or economic status.
Prime Minister Harper on the other hand was in India, negotiating the sale of Uranium and nuclear technologies. Desperate times bring desperate measures as India previously took the technology and eventually built a bomb. Now, by looking the other way Canada will accept the $billion trade as long as the secrets aren’t sold to Iran or any rouge states.
Greece Parliament passes more austerity measures to secure funding for continued bailout support. Over 50,000 protesters surround the Parliament as violent outbreaks continue.
I think I love you!
