Ukraine, Russia what is really going on?

The world has changed as the Ukraine crisis represents the most recent estrangement between Russia and the West. American leadership ignored dialogue during the Winter Olympics in Sochi, a $51 Billion Dollar investment to develop a resort area for Russia funded in part by the IOC. While Putin made President Obama look weak over the Syrian chemical attack, I personally wonder was it actually the Syrian regime that attacked its own People. Could it have been a secret covert operation (CIA or MI5) making it seem as if the attack was premeditated by the regime to gather world opinion. When Obama drew a line in the sand, he didn’t stand behind his threat. Putin made him look foolish as if he was a dog, walking away with his tail between his legs. Why did the Americans help liberate the Libyans,while not helping the Egyptians or others uprising against their own governments? The bottom line- No financial interest for the Americans to engage. It is all about the Petrol-Dollar. When first elected as President Obama talked about diplomacy and extending an Olive Branch to their enemies, now he is reviving the ‘Cold War’, simply because he was embarrassed? As much as I disagree with the invasion of Ukraine, the Russians are simply acting to protect their backyard. “Ever since Putin’s speech at the Munich Security Conference in 2007, everyone should have known that Russia would no longer accept Western games within its sphere of influence,” If Ukraine were to align with NATO, the distance to Moscow would be less than 500KM, therefore why would they agree with Ukraine joining the West when the country has been through the invasions of both Napoleon and Hitler.
