Today is Valentines Day a day in which people at least in this part of the world express the love and admiration they have for one another.

Be it your lover, your family or the dearest people in your circle of friends. It is another day for the corporate enterprises to capitalize their profitable ideas by imposing guilt trips if you can’t meet the bar or expectations they set for society via the media.

As a child it was simple to express your love by stealing a few roses from the local funeral parlour and presenting it to the love of your life, be it your mom or the girl next door. There are no garden patches in February for a kid to pick a rose. Writing cards to all your classmates was also a method but today if a kid excludes others even if they don’t feel the love, they will probably get scolded for not being considerate and hurting the feelings of others.

In adolescence, the expression of infatuation is unleashed as exploding hormones unleash the hearts desires as the testosterone in most males; simulate the King Kong impersonation of beating ones chest as a demonstration of masculinity.

After settling down with the life-mate and having a few kids because you were convinced that this was the ultimate expression of your love, the expression of your love changes yet again; a movie, dinner, chocolates, eatable underwear or a separation agreement become the obvious choices.

Rather than be swayed by the corporate media, do what comes naturally and appropriate for your situation, just be happy in what you do. Be true to yourself and if the whole world could learn to love a little more like we express today then just maybe we could see a better and safer place for all.

Now it’s time to stay up all night to have fun and who knows I just might get lucky in more ways than one.

Happy Valentines to all and may your roses come from the florist not your local funeral parlour.
