I have to come out and say it loud and proud; No I am not gay but if the truth be told, I am a Big Mommas’ boy. How can I not be, as the person that gave birth to me who nurtured me and loves me unconditionally even to this day, I cannot put into words the love and admiration my heart holds. Always positive when I am down, happy if I am sad, considerate and encouraging when I am angry, my Mother as do many other Mothers accept their children for their short comings, faults or misguided adventures.
I have to admit being of Italian decent the bond between a Son and Mother tends to be special.
For example there was a night my Father came home from work and dinner was served at 4:30pm. For some reason, green beans found their way onto my plate. I nearly died by violently gagging with the thought of eating them. My plate was contaminated! My Father who came from a time of War and experienced hunger saw this reaction from his Boy as intolerable; So he declared all would have to eat vegetable stew for one whole week. Geezzzz what did I do? At first I refused to eat and would rather die but never having experienced hunger, what did I know? The next day when the vegetable stew was served my Mother made sure there was more meat in my cup in comparison to my sisters. Even my Grandmother would give me her share so I wouldn’t go to bed hungry. Not sure if the lesson was learned but today I still argue with my Dad about his forceful methods potentially giving us an eating disorder. Thank goodness for my Mother as I enjoy all foods including vegetables today and it vividly shows.
In the Wizard of OZ, Dorothy said it best, “There is no place like home” and even further there is no one in this world that will love you more than the person that gave birth to you. I realize everyone may have a different experience and it is understandable that not everyone may have had a positive experience. But before we press to judge think of the circumstances that Parent may have been in and for a moment walk a day in that person shoes to understand. Also if your Mom has passed on keep her in your thoughts and worship the Mother of your children by never forgetting where you came from.
