Live for today because tomorrow may never come, is the way I try to live my life.
It is always easier said than done especially when you have responsibilities to others that are dependant upon you.
Of course we want to see our families succeed with health, happiness and prosperity but how we achieve this balance is different for everyone.
Priorities and things individuals want may be different. Today also happens to be my eldest daughters’ birthday, as she graduates from the teens and enters the world of life.
I have come to realize with all the advice, nurturing and support provided there is nothing more powerful than the emergence of oneself. The transition from a teen to an adult is like watching the development of a volcano ready to explode. The youth are full of energy and personality, wanting to create an identity that is unique. Standing back and realizing that life is a set of experiences that allow one to grow; making mistakes are part of the process. Success is achieved once the person learns not to duplicate the previous errors. Regardless of how much a parent speaks for the benefit of a child, it will be the decisions made by the individual that will ultimately determine the character. As a parent we can only do our best by providing a safe, caring and loving environment. The rest is up to them to make their mark and eventually become independent and start their own family. It will be amazing to watch the same lessons taught to their own kids, one day and I can take pride in saying, “I told you so”.
I hope I don’t have to face the ignorance and rebellion of youth today because I won’t be able to keep myself under control. Just like the other day as I was in the food court and saw this young lad with spiked rainbow hair. “He looked at me and said, “Hey do you have a problem, never done anything wild in your life?” Not able to hold back, I responded, yup I did, I once had sex with a peacock, now I wonder if you’re my son?”
