Good morning,
Another year encroaches upon us as we look forward to celebrating Canada Day on July 1. Canada will be celebrating 155 years since Confederation in 1867. On the other side of the border, the United States of America a Nation created in 1776 will be celebrating 246 years of unity. It was the Canadian Railway which was built coast to coast that kept Canada from becoming a fragmented State. As such we should be grateful for the independence we enjoy today.
Both Nations are gifted with natural resources, abundance and opportunities provided to multitudes of people, especially after World Wars displaced so many. The beginning was harsh for immigrants, especially moving westward. There was absolutely no infrastructure in place with access to land almost impossible. Many first waves of immigrants faced unexpected climate extremes as well as untold horrors, yet survived. The human feats accomplished were extraordinary, acclimatizing to the harsh conditions, raising families and surviving. The traits of these nomads were a strength in body, mind and spirit, the backbone of what built our Nations.
Fast forward to the present our Nations have been turned upside down. We have witnessed many things that could be classified as absurd or unbelievable while shocking people into believing what is wrong is now right and what was once right is now wrong? People’s expectations are increasing more each and every day for that of entitlement rather than a willingness to work toward success. History should be a barometer for the future rather than trying to eradicate it.
I had the pleasure to be invited to a friend’s family farm recently to collect the garlic scapes from which he planted by hand over acres. Reaping the rewards of hard work we both pulled weeds for two hours and took the by-product of the plant to enjoy at home as pesto or added to pasta as a stir fry. Many in today’s society don’t really understand where food comes from other than from the supermarket. It’s absolutely mind-boggling when you ask a young person where the meats, eggs or dairy products come from as they would simply respond, the supermarket of course.
It’s time to celebrate and understand what got us here as a Nation in the first place. It’s not all about money but rather the grassroots of hard work and ingenuity which provides a sense of patriotism toward the land of milk and honey. It’s time to take our Nation back from radicalism to bring back productivity. Let’s celebrate like it’s 1999 again!
Lastly, my intention today is simply to celebrate the countries we all call home. Continue to fight for what you believe even if you stand alone as it is your right to do so. Money alone doesn’t bring happiness it’s about eliminating the black clouds of division that will keep us prosperous. The USD Index regains the 105.0 level as USD strength remains paramount. The focus continues to be on increasing interest rates to curb hyper-inflation. But this will have major consequences moving forward. The Price of Oil has dipped below the $105/B level, reflecting the concern of continued economic growth. The Canadian Dollar stands around the 0.7750 level.
Happy Birthday Canada and The United States of America! Be grateful to be witnessing this moment in time which will become history shortly.
