I pondered about my Mom’s upcoming birthday in April, and then over the radio I heard that Engelbert Humperdinck was coming to Casino Rama. My Mom adores him so immediately I called my sisters to set a date. Unfortunately they couldn’t commit and so I decided to go it alone.
I thought twice and instead considered inviting my aunt who has been providing home care for my uncle for almost 20 years. Enticing my cousin, to treat her for a change, he obliged and we were off to Rama on Friday April 11th. At the suggestion of the goddess who provided the tickets, we made a reservation at the top restaurant and had a wonderful dinner.
While I was away from the table, the tickets arrived. To my surprise there was a second set of tickets. Rather than flounder at the casino, we also would be listening to the music of a Superstar Entertainer.
The crowd may have been well into their seventies, as canes, strollers and walkers filled the floor space. The beauty was that no one could stand up and block your vision and for this I was grateful. The moment of truth had arrived and Englebert Humperdinck, arrived with grace, charm and presence.
Not only did he sing, but he entertained the crowd making all laugh. Even the young at heart still raced to the stage to throw their panties, he responded after the number, “Over the years I have accumulated many, unfortunately none fit”. I was just about to take mine off and throw him a pair with ample leg and butt room.
When he sang a melody of songs to close out the show, it included, ‘The Last Waltz’; My Mom turned to me and said, “Son tonight you made me feel like I was 27 years old again”.
It was just then that Mr. Humperdinck, turned to the crowd and boasted about how great a lover he was and that women would be knocking on his door all night long, then he said, “wanting to get out of his room”, Being so close to the stage he could’ve been winking at my mom, does this give me the right to call him dad?
