Those were the days as I was reminiscing about being in kindergarden. I remember bringing my fathers old flannel shirt to school, not knowing what to expect the teacher was going to have us finger-paint for the first time. Oh how the adrenaline raced through my body with anticipation as if I was a young Micheal Angelo putting his brush to canvas for the very first time; A Master-piece and nothing less. In front of me were two colours Blue and Green. Ready to dive in, I looked at my index finger and just as I was about to dip it into the paint I could feel the creative juices starting to flow.

Within minutes (this is why I am called the 10 second hero, today), I drew a house in the colour blue with a green sun, shining on it. My smile was ear to ear and this felt like the biggest accomplishment of my young life.

I couldn’t wait to bring it home to put it on the fridge for everyone to see.

Now let’s fast forward my life 44 years to present, all of a sudden those creative juices seem to have dried up. Is it because there is a new Mamma in town who happens to be my wife? Still displaced from our home since the March fire, the rebuild has been challenging to say the least. With little input on my part because my opinion about anything seems irrelevant, specifically to choosing colours, I just let her do what she wants so I don’t have to hear her say I told you so. The one day I do suggest something I got chewed out while driving.

To block the noise of her rant, I started singing that classic kindergarden song that brought me back to a happy time, “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands, If your happy and you know it clap your hands, If your happy and you know it and you really want to show it, if your happy and you know it clap your hands.

So when we reached our destination and the ranting ended in my good ear and I had a few seconds of peace, my wife says, “You didn’t clap your hands!” Go figure?
